Ulster Academy, built in the late nineteenth century,
reflects its function and era. The architecture echoes the
academy’s utilitarian purpose as a school during the
industrial Revolution, with a steel and brick frame
housing high ceilings and large windows. Also indicative
of the time period, practical elements such as steel
beams were molded into sleek, classical columns lending
the space a simple elegance.
Seeing its architectural potential in the spring of 2003,
Kingston Trio, LLC decided to purchase and restore the
building as part of the area’s revitalization already
underway. Kingston’s proximity to Manhattan, well
regarded neighboring communities such as Rhinebeck
and Woodstock, as well as outdoor leisure activities
accounts for it being reenergized.
Kingston Trio rescued Ulster Academy from its under utilization
as a storage space for the school district to restore
the 3-story building’s historic grandeur. |
